What differentiates Zoom from other similar products?
You are able to log in to a meeting via a web browser without the need to download any software to your device. The capabilities may be limited for but some people downloading software is cumbersome so the option to bypass it and still join a meeting is extremely convenient. The interface is intuitive and easy to use. I work with a lot of clients who are not tech-savvy in the least, yet no one has ever had an issue with figuring out how to use Zoom.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I love that it is accessible even without a paid subscription. Most of my meetings are one-on-one and therefore a paid subscription is not needed as the meetings are not limited to time constraints. If a third person were to join the meeting, the meeting would then be limited to 45 minutes. Which is still ample time to get through a quick meeting. The few times I have had to subscribe I was able to both sign-up and cancel the service without speaking to anyone and being locked into any type of commitment.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Since the start of COVID-19 many users have turned to Zoom. Because of that, the company implemented a ton of new features such as waiting rooms, authenticated user usage, and access codes. When using Zoom on a much smaller scale, such as two users, it can be a bit bothersome to have to wait in the waiting room until someone allows you access or to have to enter an access code for security purposes. While there are ways to bypass these methods, they should not be the default setting.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Take your time in learning the backend features so that when you are in a meeting you know where everything is and you don't have to interrupt the meeting. One feature that someone should familiarize themselves with, especially when in a large group setting, is the mute and video icons. I have been in numerous meetings where someone was talking and didn't realize they were muted or vice versa.
