OneTrust Acquires Regulatory Research Platform DataGuidance
OneTrust, a leading privacy management technology platform, has announced that they have acquired DataGuidance, a privacy and security regulatory research platform.
OneTrust customers will now have access to information about changes to legal and compliance frameworks as well as OneTrust’s original implementation tools. The integration provides privacy professionals with the information resources to stay up-to-date on changes to legal and compliance frameworks (contributed to by a network of 500 privacy lawyers worldwide) while also operationalizing privacy, security, and third-party risk management.
Ann Cavoukian, Ph.D., Distinguished Expert-in-Residence, Privacy by Design Centre of Excellence, Ryerson University commented on the acquisition, stating, “I’ve watched OneTrust and DataGuidance grow over the years and deliver true value, especially for their customers. I have no doubt that combining the two will deliver even greater value for their customers. This is a unique integration for all involved, ultimately yielding positive gains for the privacy field.”
The integration is currently live and DataGuidance’s 350 customers can now access their subscription directly within OneTrust.
Our Take
There will be an increase in privacy management solution M&As over the next year. As the threat of the GDPR loomed in 2018 a wave of new products solving various privacy and security problems hit the market. Meanwhile, numerous well established, niche solutions had been serving a specific market for years. Expect to see acquisitions such as this one increase, as vendors grapple with the solutions they provide.
Notably, we have yet to encounter a product that provides many, if not all, of the important features a privacy management solution could offer. OneTrust’s acquisition of DataGuidance brings them that much closer to dominating the market.
