23-Jan-10 Expectations that Apple Inc. will launch a much-rumoured tablet computer next Wednesday has Internet blogs buzzing with speculation about how the device will look and what it will be called.
Typically, Apple is continuing with its successful formula of building anticipation through secrecy. The iPod maker sent out a statement Monday urging media to "come see our latest creation" at an event in San Francisco on Jan. 27, but provided no other details.
The general consensus is that the new tablet will have a 10-inch colour touch screen and will operate much the same way as an iPhone. It will be called the iSlate, iTablet or iPad, and will sell for more than $700 (U.S.).
One rumour is that The New York Times' decision to begin charging for access to online content in 2011 is part of a larger partnership with Apple that will see the newspaper's stories available on the tablet through an iTunes-like distribution model.
