Comprehensive software reviews to make better IT decisions
Zoom Hires Jason Lee as Chief Information Security Officer
As Zoom approaches the end of its 90 day moratorium on enhancements to focus on security, the company names Jason Lee, SalesForce’s former SVP of Security Operations, as its new CISO.
Lee, a 20-year veteran in the IT security space, brings a wealth of security experience in the cloud service space; he spent three years as head of Salesforce’s security operations and 15 years with Microsoft, previously as Principal Director of Security Engineering for the Windows and Devices division. Lee commenced his role with Zoom on June 29, 2020.
The hiring of Lee continues Zoom’s trend of security focus in the company and its products: in April, Zoom enlisted former Facebook security executive Alex Stamos as security consultant to help steer Zoom’s efforts in enhancing the security of its products and services.

“Zoom is on an incredible journey of growth and I am thrilled to bring my experience of running world-class security organizations to the company. Ensuring that customers trust our products is of the utmost importance and I look forward to working with the team to continue instilling security into the DNA of Zoom,” said Lee.
Zoom stock continues to hit record levels with the naming of Lee as CISO, an indication of investor confidence that the company continues to move in the right direction with information security.
Our Take
The naming of Lee as CISO is a win for Zoom. As SVP Security Operations of Salesforce (the world’s largest cloud software company), Lee’s experience securing cloud services and sensitive information will undoubtedly be invaluable in enhancing Zoom’s security posture. As a former development director at Microsoft, Lee’s experience in the software development lifecycle will increase security oversight as the product continues to develop and mature.
IT departments that had previously dismissed Zoom due to security concerns can soon take a second look at the product as a viable corporate web conferencing solution.
