What differentiates BMC TrueSight Operations Management from other similar products?
BMC, through both organic development and acquisition of IT management vendors over the past 20 years, provides an extensive portfolio of solutions manage services, and the associated physical and virtual infrastructures that enable those services. BMC typically leads with Remedy as a means to offer the larger Business Service Management portfolio - although it is not a requisite to ascertain value in the ITSM product. Remedy ITSM is licensed on-premise and in the SaaS model as RemedyOnDemand.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Licensing – BMC licenses Remedy and RemedOnDemand to serve both on-premise and SaaS requirements. The significant majority of ServiceNow customers are SaaS, and it is sold primarily as such. Demonstration of Value – BMC works to demonstrate the value of investment through a larger portfolio of IT management solutions. ServiceNow works to demonstrate the value of investment through ITSM and the development of request-and-fulfill applications that support adjacent business processes.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Administration – All ITSM solutions require administration and often the more customization and configuration applied to an ITSM solution, the more challenging administration (and upgrades) becomes. IT organizations should evaluate how easy/difficult it will be for them to administer either solution, particularly if they don’t have resources to easily support their ITSM solution. Neither solution is perfect in this regard, but this is often a function of how far large, complex organizations drift from the out-of-the-box content.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Go for it. I would definitely recommend it.

What differentiates BMC TrueSight Operations Management from other similar products?
TrueSight Operations Manager provides one single URL and a consistent user interface to monitor all servers, view events and alerts, and drill down and analyze the data points. Just one Patrol agent is deployed and that agent can be customized with various KMs ( Knowledge Modules) to collect everything you need for monitoring - OS, applications, databases, and web pages.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The event and alerting can be customized before being integrated to automatically open incidents so that the incident ticket provide a meaningful message. The ability to ingest events from third parties.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Network monitoring is not part of TSOM and integrated through a partner. For a complex environment, TrueSight Operations Manager meets a lot of your needs in just one product but for a smaller, simpler shop it may be overkill.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Other products that were compared to TSOM were eliminated because of lack of support for some technologies or lacking functionality.
