Micro Focus Delivers Notable Upgrades to ALM Octane
Micro Focus ALM Octane manages the quality and test management of application portfolios at enterprise scale and offers visibility and traceability across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) with a single source of truth. This vendor made several noteworthy acquisitions that propelled its visibility in the application lifecycle management (ALM) landscape:
- Interset (Feb. 2019)
- Covertix (Sept. 2018)
- HPE Software (Sept. 2016), which offered the often go-to HP ALM and Quality Center products
- Serena Software (May 2016)
ALM Octane has a number of notable strengths, such as:
- Customizable reports, graphs, and dashboards that help teams stay on top of critical items with prioritization.
- The ability for teams to assign tests, defects, and user stories to a specific application release and use custom tagging that quickly filters and views items across the lifecycle.
- Third-party and Micro Focus applications, add-ons, and plug-ins to expand the functionality of ALM Octane on the Micro Focus AppDelivery Marketplace.
The recent ALM Octane 15.0.40 release (and subsequent 15.0.46 release) focused on increasing end user productivity and visibility into the entire delivery pipeline, with features such as:
- Extended SAFe program support enabling the assignment of programs to one or more release.
- Enhanced Defect Resolution Time widgets that show resolution time versus reopen rate.
- Vulnerabilities tab that enables the tracking and analyzing of security vulnerabilities discovered in the code using Fortify, SonarQube, or other static code analysis tools.
- Manual and Gherkin Test's History tab that shows that the script was modified and provides a link to open a comparison view.
- Import Tests tool to modify existing tests and test suites.
- Support for multi-branch pipelines in GitLab.
- Testing support enhancements with integration partners: Jira plugin, Team City, Bamboo.
